What does a 20 ft shipping container cost?

Costs vary; our prices generally start at $2,475 for a used 20 foot shipping container; view photos and prices of current inventory here on our website.

What are the interior dimensions of a 20 ft. shipping container?

19 feet 4 inches deep, 7 foot 8 inches high, and 7 foot 10 inches wide = 1,161 cubic feet

How much does an empty shipping container weigh?

Weight can vary (for instance a “high cube” [taller] container would weigh more), but the range is typically from 1.8 to 2.2 metric tons, which is roughly 3,970 lbs to 4,850 lbs.

What is the weight capacity of a 20 ft shipping container?

Shipping container capacity is measured in TEUs, which stands for Twenty Foot Equivalent.  One TEU, after subtracting the actual weight of a 20 foot container, amounts to 47,600 lbs.

What is the volume of a 20 ft shipping container?

You would think a 20 foot container that is 8 feet 6 inches high and 8 feet wide is 20 x 8.5 x 8, so that would be 1,360 cubic feet.  But in reality the dimensions internally are slightly smaller due to the thickness of the walls, so it’s really 19′ 4″ x 7′ 8″ x 7′ 10″ = 1,161 cubic feet.

How many square feet are there in a 20 ft shipping container?

That would be 19 ft 4″ long x 7 ft 8″ = 148 square feet total.

What is the floor area of a 20 ft shipping container?

That’s really the same as asking how many square feet there are; the answer is 148 square feet of floor area.

What is the width of a 20 ft shipping container?

A 20 foot shipping container is 8 feet wide externally; internally due to the thickness of the walls, it is 7 ft 8 inches wide.

FAQs When Buying A Shipping Container

WHAT SIZE CONTAINERS DO YOU SELL?

What size containers do you sell?  We sell 10’, 20’, and 40’ long containers. Most containers are 8’6 tall but we also have 9’6 tall containers called high cube containers.  Occasionally we get containers in other sizes such as 8’ and 30’.

HOW MUCH SPACE IS REQUIRED FOR DELIVERY?

The amount of space is minimal. For a 20-foot unit, you will need approximately 75 feet of straight clearance.  For a 40’ unit, you will need approximately 120’ of clearance in a straight line.

HOW IS THE CONTAINER DELIVERED?

We deliver 20’ containers to your site using a tilt bed truck. The driver will back in the truck, tilt the bed, and drive out from underneath the container. The container will gently slide off the truck, onto the ground. The driver will need to pull straight out from underneath the container. Click here to see a video of how we offload a 20’ container.  40’ containers are delivered with a pickup up truck pulling a gooseneck trailer.  Click here to see a video of how we offload a 40′ container.

IS THERE ANY SITE PREPARATION NECESSARY?

The site will have to be fairly level, smooth, and firm. We can deliver on dirt, cement, grass, crushed stone, and asphalt. Keep in mind that a container might sink in a soft surface and our truck could leave tire marks.

DO I HAVE TO BE PRESENT FOR THE DELIVERY OF MY STORAGE UNIT?

We recommend that you or a designated contact person be present the first time we deliver a unit to you. If this is not possible, we can discuss other alternatives.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GET MY STORAGE CONTAINER?

We strive to deliver your container in the shortest amount of time.  Typically that is as soon as the same or next day to a week. It all depends on how busy we are.

HOW DOES PAYMENT WORK?

We require check or cash at delivery which can be handed to the driver.  Alternatively, we accept most major credit cards. If paying by credit card, you need to give the credit card number you wish to use to our office personnel before the day of delivery so that we can run your card.

DO I NEED A PERMIT?

It is your responsibility to check with your local authorities about the placement of the container.

ARE THERE ANY SPECIALTY CONTAINERS FOR SALE?

We sell containers with doors at one end, both ends (double door containers), side doors (open side containers), and also can do modifications.

ARE THE CONTAINERS ON THE WEBSITE THE ACTUAL CONTAINERS YOU SELL?

The containers on the website are the actual containers we have in stock. To purchase a particular container, note the container ID number to specify it or order online.
